Dr. Mark Merlis has a Ph.D. in Languages and Linguistics from Yeshiva University. He earned his M.A. from the University of Chicago and his B.A. from Brooklyn College. At NYSCAS, he teaches Public Speaking, and Interpersonal Communication.

Dr. Merlis specializes in languages, literature and linguistics, and critical thinking. He is familiar with about a dozen of languages and is passionate about travel writing. He has also studied voice and acting and has acted in numerous venues and roles.

Teaching Philosophy:

“My goal is to expand the students’ horizons beyond what’s written in the textbook and help them overcome their challenges. When a student discovers the nexus between concepts and their light bulb flicks on, I enjoy basking in the incandescence.”
