Adjunct Faculty
Judith Ghinger holds an M.A. in Communications from Hunter College (CUNY). Since 2009, she has been an instructor at NYSCAS where she teaches Critical Reading and Thinking in Ethnic Studies, Intercultural Communication, Introduction to College Writing, and Essentials of Effective Writing. In addition, she was an evaluator and reporter for the Touro General Education assessments in critical thinking and analysis.
Prof. Ghinger also taught Principles of Writing at Empire State College’s Center for Labor Studies and Media Studies at the City College of New York. She owes much of her communications and writing experience to her work as an educational administrator. As Liaison for the City University of New York’s Early College Initiative, she developed programs for traditionally underserved high school students to prepare them to succeed in college. At the New York City Department of Education, she served as Bronx Regional Coordinator for the Division of Assessment and Accountability.
Teaching Philosophy:
“There is a deep connection between a student’s emotional and social life and how she or he learns. Therefore, the best teaching engages the whole person. I believe that students take responsibility for their own learning when given the tools and, in many cases, the confidence to build on their strengths and develop areas needing improvement. I encourage students to become independent thinkers through questioning and analyzing their own and others’ assumptions and ideas. My goal for the classroom is to foster a culture of community where students feel safe enough to engage in a process of exploration and discovery through dialogue with the instructor and other students.”
