Nicole Crane, M.S.Ed.
Adjunct Instructor, Education Department
For 20 years, Professor Nicole Crane has been a dedicated, and thoughtful educator, who is deeply committed to supporting developmentally appropriate pedagogical, and culturally responsive practices that positively impact the lives of all learners – children and adults alike. Professor Crane started her teaching career with the New York City Department of Education as a classroom teacher, and later becoming an Instructional Coach with NYCDOE’s Division of Early Childhood, working closely with teachers and leaders citywide in support of high-quality programming and practices in DOE district schools, charter schools, and NYC Early Education Childhood Centers. Additionally, Professor Crane has held various roles in NYCDOE’s acclaimed NYC Men Teach mentorship program, supporting new teachers who become part of the DOE system, and received the Ambassador of the Year award in 2018. Professor Crane joined NYSCAS in 2018 as an Adjunct Instructor, teaching both Early Childhood and Childhood Elementary courses to a diverse population of students. As an instructor, Professor Crane believes in the importance of giving students voice as they debate and challenge ideas, as well as providing interactive activities for students to work collaboratively together, as they become immersed in the material during class sessions. In her spare time, Professor Crane is an active member of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), having facilitated workshops for members in New York and Tennessee, and also enjoys reading, meditation, and spending time with her family.
