“When in doubt, look for us. If you don’t know what to do, you don’t know where to go, you don’t know what to expect, we can help.” — Lorinda Moore, NYSCAS Student Advocate
Many NYSCAS students juggle multiple responsibilities — work, family, personal finances, and school. Our student support staff understand these challenges because they’ve been there themselves.
When things get overwhelming, you have two dedicated professionals to turn to for counseling or advocacy. They know that sometimes you need practical help, sometimes you need someone to listen, and sometimes you just need to know that someone believes in you.
Confidential One-on-One Counseling
When you get personal support, what you share stays between you and the NYSCAS wellness counselor, Willie Evans.
He offers a nonjudgmental, confidential environment where you can talk about anything that affects your ability to succeed in school. Common reasons you might reach out for counseling include:
- Family or relationship issues that have an impact on your education.
- Stress and anxiety about your coursework.
- Feeling like you want to quit school.
- Getting connected to additional mental health services if needed.
Willie holds regular business hours. You can schedule a counseling session with him in advance, or drop in when you need support right away.
