A Serial Startup Creator Finds Success By Recognizing a Need and Filling It
It’s easy to imagine that if Dean Glas wanted to sell the Brooklyn Bridge, buyers would line up around the block. But he is neither crook nor con man. In fact, he is an earnest guy with a knack for creating, running and scaling startups.
“In elementary school, I sold candy bars and sodas to my classmates during recess,” Glas, now 33, says with a laugh. “I was a hit with the kids—though their parents, not so much.”
In his last semester at Touro University, Glas had already cofounded GeoGif, the first company specializing in location-based animation stickers and filters. Think of it as a way to let users bring their photos and videos to life with playful, animated designs tied to specific locations and interests.
Glas and his co-founder raised $500,000 in seed funding and decided to quit school to focus full time on the company.
His parents, immigrants from Israel and Argentina who had worked their way into the middle class, were understandably less than thrilled. But Glas trusted his instincts. Smart move. In 2019, TikTok bought GeoGif. “I felt bad disappointing my parents, but I knew I had to follow my heart,” he reflects. “It was one of the best decisions of my life.”
Glas eventually returned to Touro and graduated a couple of years later. “I loved Touro because it opened so many doors for me,” he says. “The professors not only encouraged my ideas but also guided me on how to make them a reality.”
Since then, Glas has founded and led several successful companies, including SellX, the first on-demand sales automation platform that connects top-tier talent with fast-growing companies, helping them scale efficiently.
For Glas, it’s never been about the money. “From the time I was too young to know the word ‘entrepreneur,’” he says, “I’ve been driven by the mission to find a need and fill it.”
Now splitting his time between New York City and Los Angeles, the newlywed continues doing what he does best. “I’m obsessed with innovation, constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” he says. “For me, it’s the journey that’s the most exciting part.”
