CDA Requirements
To start the CDA program at NYSCAS, you need a high school diploma or GED and you must already be working in early childhood education.
There are also several requirements to get the credential. In order to take the CDA exam, you need to:
- Be currently employed at a licensed program that serves children from birth to 5 years old.
- Have 3 years of on-the-job experience.
- Complete 480 hours of supervised fieldwork.

Hands-on Experience with Expert Supervision
As part of your CDA requirements, you'll need to do 480 hours of supervised fieldwork with young children and their families. Since you're already working in early childhood education, you can do this fieldwork at your current workplace.
Your supervisor will guide you through the fieldwork process, making sure you get the practical experience you need for the CDA while meeting the everyday needs of your job.
