Dr. Lenin Ortega serves as dean of the New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) at Touro University, where he is committed to expanding access to transformative educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. A respected educator, academic leader, and U.S. Army veteran, Dr. Ortega brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education, distinguished by his dedication to student success, academic excellence, and inclusive learning environments.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ortega has championed the needs of students facing educational, social, economic, and personal challenges. He firmly believes that higher education serves as a pathway to opportunity and advancement and has devoted his professional life to supporting non-traditional, first-generation, and underserved learners. His leadership focuses on ensuring students have access to the resources, guidance, and encouragement necessary to achieve their academic and professional goals.
Dr. Ortega earned a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education from the American College of Education. He also holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Touro University, where he pursued advanced studies in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. His academic background has provided the foundation for a distinguished career centered on teaching, mentorship, student development, and institutional leadership.
Prior to his appointment as dean, Dr. Ortega served in numerous academic and administrative roles at Touro University. He has extensive teaching experience within NYSCAS, instructing courses in Early Childhood Education, Foundations of Parenting, Social Studies, and other interdisciplinary subjects. Known for his engaging teaching approach and student-centered philosophy, he has inspired countless learners to pursue their educational aspirations and build meaningful careers.
