Internships

Touro College offers a one-time paid or unpaid work experience to help students integrate classroom study with on-the-job training. It allows for a multi-faceted learning experience in your chosen profession. Students should choose positions that directly relate to the student’s field of study.

Who is this for?

  • You must already have academic training in a professional field.
  • Both full-time and part-time students.

How does it work?

The internship consists of 112-300 hours of employment and is offered as a 3-4 credit course depending on the student’s major or concentration. Students are strongly advised to seek assistance from their academic advisors before entering into the program. The Placement Office will assist students in locating a potential internship site; however, students are encouraged to obtain their own internships. All participating organization must be approved by the College.

Why do it?

The internship applies what you learn in class to real world experience, putting your “textbook” knowledge into practice. It also helps you develop an understanding of what it is to work with other employees and balance study, work and family. The work experience will look good on your resume when applying for a job after graduation, and also gives you an opportunity to network.

Rules and Procedures

Internships cannot begin without prior notification to the Placement Office. When accepted, each intern will be assigned an on-site supervisor that will determine, assign and monitor tasks to be performed by the intern. Interns should be assigned tasks and duties directly related to their chosen field of study. If an internship is terminated or dropped before its completion, the student should notify the Placement Office. The student should then set up an appointment with an academic advisor at his/her site to complete the proper paperwork, and drop the course according to the Registrar’s guidelines.
